September Reads, Bookish Adventures & Wild Card

September has been a wonderfully eclectic reading month — from nature audiobooks and fungi to fantasy worlds, Tarot, and a slightly frantic mission to finish a certain series before a new release!

My reading habits are forever changing, but if you ask me for my all-time favourite, the answer is usually Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. It’s the book that inspired Yogi Book Club as an event, which eventually grew into the membership we have today. Two years on, it’s grown into such a lovely community of books, yoga, meditation, journalling and connection — and I can’t wait to see where it goes next.

This month I’ve read Slags, which I expected to be a light, liberating read about smothered youth. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite connect with me. I found the main character difficult to warm to and struggled to get into the story. But that’s the joy of reading — we don’t have to fall in love with every book we open.

I’ve also been listening to Outlander. It’s hefty, long and brutal, but I’m enjoying it so far. I’ve never watched the TV series, so I’m particularly curious to see how the two compare.

Then there’s Entangled Life, a fascinating exploration of fungi and the incredible ways mushrooms interact with the world around us. One quote really stayed with me:

“Composers make pieces of music. These were decomposers, who unmake pieces of life.”

Last month, I was completely swept away by Fourth Wing and have absolutely no regrets. I devoured all three books in around nine days while van-tripping across Skye and Harris — not a bad setting for a fantasy binge!

I’ve also recently discovered the joys of my Kindle, which I’ve only had for a few weeks and am already wondering how I managed without it. I’ve been frantically working my way through Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series ahead of the new release, alongside a few more peaceful nature audiobooks for balance.

This month’s Yogi Book Club read

For September, we’re exploring Wild Card: Let the Tarot Tell Your Story. It’s been such a fun and interactive theme, with Tarot spreads to decipher, weekly Tarot Tuesdays and plenty of opportunities to explore the cards alongside our reading.

There’s something particularly lovely about taking a book beyond the pages and letting its themes spill into other parts of life. That’s at the heart of Yogi Book Club: the monthly book becomes a starting point for yoga practices, themed meditations, contemplation and journalling prompts, creating space to explore the ideas in your own way and at your own pace.

And, of course, there’s always a little Happy Post involved — I’ve been especially excited to put together this month’s spooky, Tarot-inspired edition for our meet-up!

You don’t even need to finish the book to be part of it. The book is simply an invitation to connect, explore and spend a little more time with yourself and others who love stories, books and all the wonderful places they can take us.

As for what’s next on my ever-growing TBR pile? I think it might be the Strange Houses series…

Until next month, happy reading!

Love,
Leské
